Rapid innovation is dangerous. What happens when the tools we build result in the loss of independence?
The organic form of the brain is gradually normalised and sterilised, until at last, reality loses one of its dimensions and all of its colour. We are creatures of flesh and blood driven by our inherent knowledge and fear of our own demise.
What happens when the tools we build result in the loss of independence?
The manual weaving industry fell into decline after the invention of the Spinning Jenny. Weavers were side-lined and abandoned, and their skills lost. The current technological revolution that very much mirrors the industrial one of the nineteenth century. A large proportion of the workforce was displaced as industrialists sought to maximise their profits at the expense of the livelihoods of their workers. They created a surplus of products and manpower that not only de-valued the skills of workers, but also made them obsolete. Now, the weaver is a thing of the past...
Is this what we can expect a generation from now?
The artist, the writer, the musician, the thinker: things of the past? It is a time of uncertainty and already of much social upheaval. The new AI revolution is bleeding into all aspects of life. And it isn't just those pursuits that the AI purveyors seeks to usurp that are affected, employers are flooded with AI generated CVs, to the point which everyone looks exactly equal, making it nigh on impossible to choose from applicants; an endless ocean of homogeneity.
